History of the Microscope
During that historic period known as the Renaissance, after the "dark" Middle Ages, there occurred the inventions of printing, gunpowder and the mariner's compass, followed by the discovery of America. Equally remarkable was the invention of the light microscope: an instrument that enables the human eye, by means of a lens or combinations of lenses, to observe enlarged images of tiny objects. It made visible the fascinating details of worlds within worlds.

How can you measure a cell using a microscope?
The viewing area of each microscope is slightly different, so measuring a cell under the microscope requires that you first find the size of your viewing area. You could consult the microscope's owner's manual to find the size, but don't worry if that information is not available. Finding the viewing area size requires only a single measurement, and estimating the size of specific cells requires only simple division.
